斯嘉丽也谈论至19岁时的他们，“重新认识的这些男人，借助你就是个年长女性：没能力婉拒，也没有知道自尊心wound的价值。你谈论过很多爱情，无论就是职场上却是私底下重新认识的，男女力量对照也非常不能均衡，你被迫捏造一个他们就是‘了酷女孩’的形象，总之能够秉持深入细致还能够和云淡风重，有时而且以向自从误以为恰当的事情让步，因而你的故事不为人知，他们倍受屈辱。”

Istartedtofeelsomethingbubbleupinsidemeakindofrage;therevelationthatthisragewasn’tjustforthesewomenthatweretakenadvantageofandignoredandunseen,butalsoonbehalfofmyself.

AstheragesettledinitgavewaytootherfeelingssadnessandunexpectedlyguiltandgrievingandsuddenlyIwas19again.AndIstartedtorememberallthemenI’dknownwhotakenadvantageofthefactthatIwasayoungwomanwhodidn’tyethavethetoolstosayno–ortounderstandthevalueofmyownself-worth.

I’dhadmanyrelationshipsbothpersonalandprofessionalwherethepowerdynamicwassooffthatIhadtocreateanarrativeinwhichIwasthe‘coolgirl’whocouldhanginandhangoutandthatsometimesmeantcompromisingwhatfeltrightformeandthatseemsokay.

Compromisingmyvoice,andthereforeallowingmyselftobeunseenanddegraded,andwhetheritwasintendedbytheotherpartyornot,becauseitallowedmetohavetheapprovalthatwomenareconditionedtoneed.

Iwascomingfromaplacelikesomanyyoungwomendoafeelinglikemycreativevalueandmyprofessionalvalueandmysexualvaluecouldonlybemeasuredbytheapprovalanddesirabilityofaman.EvenifIhadcomefromahouseholdwheretheconversationaboutself-respectwasprioritizedjustbeingawomanstackedthecardsagainstmebecauseforsomanycenturieswomenhavebeentaughttobepolite.Topleaseandtopander.

AndI’vecometorealizethatnotjustmy19yearoldselfbutmyschool-yardselfandmymarriedself,andmyprofessionalselfhaveallthetimesbeenavictimofthisverycondition.AconditionthatI’mcertainamajorityofusshare.

Inevercompletelyabsorbedthe‘MeToo’phrasebecauseItookthephraseatfacevaluebutI’vecometorealizethatwhile‘MeToo’meansdifferentthingstodifferentpeople,tomeitisverysimplytheabilitytoempathizewiththevisceralrealitiesofthiscondition.

Iwanttomoveforwardandformemovingforwardmeansmydaughtergrowingupinaworldwhereshedoesn’thavetobeavictimofwhathascruellybecomethesoShoalnormthatshedoesn’thavetofitintothebindingsofthefemalecondition–TimesUponthefemalecondition.

Genderequalitycan’tjustexistoutsideourselvesitmustexistwithin.

Wemusttakeresponsibility,notjustforouractionsbutforourselves.

Wemustmakeitourresponsibilitytofeedourownhealthyego,toteachourchildrentoexercisetheirownautonomyanegostrengthbyleadingbyexample.

IhaverecentlyintroducedanewphraseinmylifethatIwouldliketosharewithyouNOMOREPANDERING–nomorefeelingguiltyabouthurtingpeople’sfeelingswhensomethingdoesn’tfeelrightforme.

Ihavemadeapromisetomyselftoberesponsibleformyself,thatinordertotrustmyinstinctsImustfirstrespectthem.

Iamfinallyonapathofforgiveness;notforthepeoplewhotookadvantageofmyconditioningtopanderbutforgivenessofmyself,forgivingthegirlwhofeltusedandheartbrokenandconfusedandguiltyandtakenadvantageofandweak–Istandbeforeyousomeonethatisempowered,notonlybythecuriosityaboutmyselfandbytheactivechoicesthatIamfinallyabletomakeandstandby,butbythebrightnessofthismovement,thestrengthintheunitythatthismovementisprovided;itgivesmehopethatwearemovingtowardsaplacewhereoursenseofequalitycantrulycomefromwithinourselves.Thankyou.
