如果真想好好学习英语，我建议直接选择雅思或者托福。原因如下:
第一，这两种考试的本质是学英语，相比其他英语考试的内容更全面，更实用。
第二，适用范围更广。比如很多大学都有出国交流的机会，出国就需要语言成绩，这时候四六级就没用了，而且一些“哑巴英语”也让人失去了上台发言的可能性。
第三，考试成绩在一定程度上可以换算成其他考试成绩。如果你的雅思能考到7，那么其他考试只需要稍微熟悉下考试流程，大概率可以取得一个很好的成绩。

说回学英语这件事。我们学英语有个误区，就是从小到大对英语的体验一直停留在做试卷，而试卷的考题又集中在阅读和写作，这就让我们觉得自己的阅读和写作能力很不错。
我在留学之前也一直这样认为的。第一次考雅思的时候确实觉得阅读不难，写作自学了俩月也考了6分。
但是实际上留学后，才发现那些都是我的一厢情愿。
事实上，以前的英语学习方式，不仅在口语和听力上是空白，阅读和写作能力也远远不过关。
拿写作来说，我这博士最后一年了，写出来的论文照样被审稿人批评，让我赶紧找个native speaker改改，或者用他们期刊的付费服务改（生气）。
要知道，我已经在全英文环境下待了近4年了，但写作照样不过关。
而口语和听力这俩科目，别说学生了，连老师都不太关注。
说白了，就是缺乏使用场景。
到底应该选择哪种英语考试？我以过来人的经验来看，学英语一定要选一种考试作为长期目标，毕竟没有目标的学习往往缺乏动力。
大学里可以选择的英语考试有:四六级、考研英语、托福、雅思，专业英语很小众就不提了。
听说读写都注重的考试是什么，当然是托福或者雅思。
拿雅思举例，听说读写都有单项分数，可以很好的评估自己的短板，同时考试内容和形式也比较接地气，听力和口语都非常实用，全部是学习和生活所需的英语。
特别是口语考试，是与国外考官进行面对面的交流，程序虽然固定，但不同的考官对应了不同的习惯性表达、口音等，是非常真实的对话过程。
雅思6.5分是大多数留学的门槛，这个门槛意味着你基本可以在国外学习和生活，意味着看一些英语影视剧，和基本的英语交流更是没什么问题。
值得注意的是，雅思分数在一定程度上可以跟考研英语对应，比如雅思6.5对应考研英语65分+，雅思7的话可以对应75+，甚至80+。
学习方法:精简版如果你刚进入大学，我不建议你盲目追求高效，因为英语学习更注重熟练度，而熟练度是由时间堆起来的，根据记忆曲线原理，日复一日的重复才是英语学习的关键。
因此同样100个小时的学习时间，50天*2小时效果就比 5天*10小时要好，赶时间的话很难做到高质量复习，而合理安排的「学习新知识+复习旧知识」才是最好的学习方法。
精简版的方法就是只讲心法，不谈招式
① 基础打好:词汇（形、义、音）
② 大量输入:听（一切可以听的英语材料）
③ 大量输出:说（找一切可以交流的对象）
最后就是不断的重复这个过程，坚持到你的那些材料都熟悉到可以背出来。
学习方法:详细版之前的精简版本质上就是两个词「输入+输出」，输入就是重复，输出就是模仿。
听力和口语是互通的，听懂是交流的前提，听不懂就无法正常交流。
大多数听力口语服务于日常生活交流，比如说打电话问你疫苗打了没，电费交了没，你的生日是多少等等，这些基本都是短句子，很直白，这类听力和口语在国外的真实场景占到80%以上。
拿下面这段话举例，全是简单句，没有复杂句，但是穿插着很多的地道词汇。
比如well-behaved（表现很好），on the leash（牵好），puppy（小狗），aggressive（容易生气）等。
a.oh hello. is this your dog? b.yes, this is rex. a.hello rex. what a cute dog. what type of dog is he? b.he’s a pug（哈巴狗）. a.oh. i should have guessed. he looks quite well-behaved. b.actually, he never listens to me. if he wasn’t on the leash, i’m sure he would run away. a.well. he seems friendly anyways. how long have you had him? b.we got him when he was a puppy. so maybe four years ago. pugs are quite small. they are a good size for the city. a.aww. that’s great. i’d love to get a dog. we have a cat, but, if i could i would give it away. b.oh. why’s that? don’t like cats? a.it’s not that i don’t like cats. but i don’t like my cat. it is so aggressive. it always tries to bite me or attack me when i’m sleeping. maybe it is part-tiger… b.i understand. a.well. enjoy your day! bye rex. b. you as well. goodbye.从上面对话你可以看出，简单的口语听力是真简单。但要注意的是，这段话一旦换成听力版本，你可能只能听懂一部分，原因有两个:词汇量和听力技巧。
词汇量这个可能很多人不服，因为不少人的自测英语词汇量可能有六千多，按理说怎么也能听懂简单的英语对话。
这里其实就有一个误区——你背会的词可能和日常用词大相径庭。
比如说你背了一大堆专业名词，诸如各种计算机用词、化学用词甚至法律用词，但这些词语在日常交流中根本碰不到，而你只会very ***， so ***， 根本想不到更多的可以表达自己想法的词汇。
对于词汇量的扩充，我的建议就是挑好词，好词的标准就是使用频率高。
英文单词总数超过20万个。人生苦短，不可能都背下来。
根据西安大略大学stuart webb教授的理论，快速说一门语言最有效方法是:选择一种语言中出现频率最高的 800 到 1000 个词，然后学习它们。如果你掌握频率最高的800个词，那你就能听懂75%的日常交流。
还是拿雅思来举例，雅思的单词相比起四六级词汇，更偏重于日常以及学习使用，如果你看过之后就能明显感觉的到，雅思词汇就是教你如何打电话订酒店，如何问电表读数等等的日常问题，相比起来非常的实用，可以说雅思高频词 = 欧美日常生活无忧，所以说，如果你学英语的目的是为了使用，用来交流，那么学习雅思绝对是一个非常好的选项，即使不为了考试也是同样的好处满满。
听力技巧指的是能否听懂一段你看得懂的话，就比如这句:
hello rex. what a cute dog. what type of dog is he?
做阅读的时候都会，但当老外说出来的时候，type of dog会连读，在你的耳朵里会变成tai f dog，那个p他们会读得很轻。听力技巧考验的就是对这类型现象的理解能力。
除了连读，还有略读、断句、重音、语调等各种发音规则，想要听懂只有一个办法，就是大量的去听各种英文材料。
具体学习方法:反复听英语对话并不断模仿
我提倡使用泛听的方法，也就是大量的去听各种类型的英文材料，这里我推荐基础场景的英文对话。
比如「空中英语教室」(studio classroom)，是一套专为亚洲人设计的英语学习类杂志，主要收录世界最新时尚资讯、热点话题、人物、故事、文化、社会现象等，以谈话聊天类型为主。
这个有节目有初级、中级、高级三个版本。不管哪个版本，都是聊天，都是对话，难度都不高，特别适合初级选手。对于高阶听力当然不够，但是我要告诉你的是，这里面的对话其实就是老外对话的难度，别把交流想象的多难，交流本来就是你一句我一句的简单句，能把简单句说明白就足够你国外生活无忧了。
这才叫学英语，而不是复习考试。
每一节是25分钟左右，长度很适中，我建议大家一个内容至少听四遍，听到后面最好做到自己去扮演回答者去回答问题。（亲测很爽，给自己一种我也可以用英语交流了的感觉）。
其他的材料也很多，比如bbc的早间新闻，都可以拿来练听力和口语，其他的电影练习法、影子跟读法和精听法都可以，重要的是找到适合自己的方法。
总结学英语不是为了考试，但是学习的目标最好选择某种考试，不然无法坚持，同时听力和口语是一脉相承的，不可能去单独学某一个。对于这俩的学习，就是不断的重复「输入+输出」，在词汇量过关的前提下，找大量的材料并循环这个过程就行。
