用英语学英语口语：holiday &

amp; vacation“假日假期”的英语口语训练

在我们学习英语的道路上，学会“用英语解释英语”真的是一项被我们长期严重忽略了你的重要英语语言技能和能力。

然而，从更细化的角度讲，把“用英语解释英语”仅仅作为“用英语解释英语”学习和把“用英语解释英语”作为“英语口语训练”还是有不易被人察觉和区分开来的差别的。

我们是要把“用英语解释英语”当做“用英语解释英语”看，但我们更要侧重把“用英语解释英语”作为“英语口语训练”看待，我们的英语才会更加“收获倍增”。

以holiday%20&%20vacation二词为例。

如果我们不想训练英语口语，也不想知道二词的英语意思，我们只想“知道”这两个英语词的中文意思，那么，我们只需要记住holiday是“假日”，vacation是“假期”即可。对于习惯或者还处于“用中文学英语”的学习者，能做到这一步一般感觉“收获也挺大”的了。

这是个“有趣的题目”，让我想起了我曾经给我的美国学生教中文时有一次他冷不丁问

我：中文“假日”和“假期”有什么不同？

我记得作为中国人已经几十年的我也一下“蒙圈”了：是呀，你要说“假期假期”这两个汉字我会不会用。我天天用，经常用，一般不会用错。可是，我还真没认真注意二者怎么区别。

1. 读到vacation,a. A holiday时，说英语：

So I know a vacation is a holiday, and a holiday is a vacation.

这段简单的英语口语(自我创造英语口语环境说出来的英语口语却很遗憾的被很多说想学英语口语的人忽略掉了！)

2. 读到vacation：To take or spend a vacation时，我们自己跟自己说英语“使用英语”：

OK.When we use the word"vacation", we can say I take a vacation, or I spend a vacation, or I have a vacation.

这不是在"练口语"吗？只不过是"自己跟自己练"罢了。

往往很多时候，我们不要奢望有人陪你我练口语(外部英语语言环境)，很理想但也很骨感。我们更多的时候只能自己靠自己(创造语言环境)。

3. 读到a period of time devoted to pleasure, rest, or relaxation, especially one with pay granted to an employee时，基本明白holiday和vacation的不同了。“使用英语”：

OK. When we say we are taking a vacation, we mean we are taking a rest from our work,or having a leave of absence from our work, but,but,but(注意，“亮点词”来了) we will still get paid by our boss for taking this vacation.

不用英语学英语，你学过的vacation和同义词a leave if absence就“走不到一块去”归类记忆。

有人会立马说：不对，也有No pay的！

我们不做这个纠结，我们关心的只是你只要会“使用英语”I get paid for my vacation，会说英语就好。

4. 读到A fixed period of holidays, especially one during which a school, court, or business suspends activities时，“使用英语”：

注意，这时候的用词就是vacation，不是holiday了。

OK.When we say the schools and colleges and universities are CLOSED for students to take a long rest ,or a long break from going to school, we mean it is a vacation, it is not a holiday.

We

have the sumner vacation, and winter vacation. We do not say summer holilday or winter holiday.

这样“说”英语就不仅仅是“英语解释英语”，而是一个“微话题Topic”了。

Holiday呢？

这真的就是在练习英语口语，而不仅仅是“用英语解释英语”。

最后，记住这句“英语口语”吧：

Well a (public) holiday is the time when all schools and universities and all governments are closed,like Saturday and Sunday. We call this BREAK time a holiday, it is not a vacation.
