good evening, ladies and gentlemen. great night, great speeches, great audience, great guests, enjoy your night! and i… it’s great honor to be invited here. i’ve been really honor and thank you, honorable miss wan, i mean seriously, thank you!
so, let’s get started!
have you watched ‘live stream’ or video clips? by the way ‘live stream’ means… ‘stream’ means flow of liquid or information and ‘live stream’ together means “直播”. have you watched one? and have you wondered what a live streamer, a “主播” or an individual video maker is like? well, you see one now!
and when i started making videos, the industry was yet rather small. no one have foreseen that it could go so far. so far, no one could have expected it. and it has become more

than an industry, it has become a business. and have you wondered why do people love to watch these kinds of thing? well i wondered why my fans watch my videos, i don’t like watch them. i thought about it. i thought about it seriously, i thought about it hard and then i figured out! it’s just like the feeling we watch ‘chimps’! you know ‘chimps’? chimpanzees. oh, i love ‘chimps’, i love watching them missing around and we love ‘chimps’ because one, they are behind bars, they cannot hurt us and two, they act like human beings! so fun to watch! and what about “主播”? one, they are behind screens, they cannot hurt us! and two, they act like, oh i forgot, they are really human beings! so fun, so fun, so fun. and yes, through years, in this field i’ve seen so many weird things. the industry has grown fast and yet it is immature. and i have seen many really weird, weird things. many people would do anything, i mean, literally anything to get hot, to get popular. and you can’t even imagine to get popular, good looking women took off clothes! to get popular, good looking men also took off clothes. weird, isn’t it? and weirder, what about men women not so good looking to get popular? they took off clothes together.
?ok. there is only one case or two cases, but that’s not joke, that actually happens and these cases have done serious harm to not only the viewers, but the society and the industry itself. and it’s really weird. you can’t imagine there’s a time, this fan of mine, he came up to me and said ‘hey buddy, you know what? you should be gay.’ what, what? why? why should i be gay? i’m straight, i’m straight and proud! and he said, ‘umm, buddy, you know girls like that? girls like that. when you are straight, ugly and straight, they will be like, uh disgusting. but when you are ugly and gay, they will be like “oh cute, so cute”.’ weird, strange, strange isn’t it? i said, ‘what? what are you talking about? straight? wait, did you say i’m ugly?’ ‘yes.’ by the way, luckily, i am still straight, i followed my heart. and why did i say luckily? oh, you know, there is temptation.
ok. so now we have a word for such kind of people, web red or web celebrity, “网红”, right? and most of us find the word ironic and sometimes insulting, so we don’t like the word. but we are just normal people having normal hobbies and the only abnormal thing is that we have a larger number of fans or followers. and it’s just a number, it can flatter our vanity but that’s just a number, isn’t it? and social websites, they are considered to be private spaces, spaces of our own, but with those mock numbers, you don’t know who’s behind, you don’t know who is behind, it’s awkward! it can be awkward sometimes. believe me! i have experienced two cases. so, this time i was at some family occasion and i hate family occasions! and i typed on my cellphone: it is so boring, i feel like dying. and when i finished, just when i pressed the ‘send’ button, just when my finger tip touched the god damn ‘send’ button, my mother came in my room, ran at me and yelled, ‘said what you little bastard?’
ah, i don’t want to recall it, really awkward. and yes, and another time, again, just imagine yourself. i met this really hot girl, really smart girl, i liked her very much and that’s i tried to act like i’m sociable and mature. and this win man of mine, this bro of mine came in to help me. he introduced me to the girl! he’s like, ‘do you see my man, this is really nice man and his diligent and he’s good at eliminating time. he is good at home and making videos. all day long! without a shower!’ hey man, you are not helping ok! that’s not helping at all and that’s so awkward i don’t want to recall it.
and now it’s the main stream that people discriminate the life style of web celebrities, “网红”. they are considered undereducated, money-obsessed and preferring a short cut in life, in other word, lazy! the fact is, the industry does have a negative effect on the younger generation. some “主播”, they keep throwing dirty words through their live stream and some even drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. i know i can’t judge their personal hobbies, but what? many are watching and some of them are kids!
last semester i went to the public speech course of miss wan and for the final exam i spoke for with celebrities. i talked about why we shouldn’t hold biases against them. but today, i’m sharing with you some dark sides of the industry, this business is not perfect! it is even far, far away from good! so, i really appreciate the opportunity you give me today and that’s not typical speech, that’s bad example for speech. it’s more of chatting or talking with you guys.
so, one last story. one last story and i will stiff stop here ok. so, this time, i hang out with some of my friends and there are also so called ‘web celebrities’. and when we, just before we started our dinner, this man he took out his cellphone. i’m like ‘oh i know, you are taking photos and uploading them onto your social website? ok, ok, just take the photo.’ and we just started, he’s still holding his cellphone. i said, ‘what, man?’ he is like, ‘live streaming, live streaming!’ ok, you are live streaming, no one wants to watch you eat, ok? and then we just finished our dinner and went out and to go down the streets, the nanjing rd. he’s still holding his cellphone still. i said, ‘what?’. he said, ‘live streaming!’ ok. who wants to watch a man wandering the streets? a 100-kilogram man wandering the street? no one wants to watch it, ok! and then we went to karaoke and to have some fun and he sat there, he didn’t sing. he just held his cellphone like… i said, ‘what?’ ‘live streaming!’ ok, people want to watch beautiful girls singing, not a bunch of men, ok? so anyway. and then after an hour or two i went to the toilet, and with my personal stuff. and he came in slowly and stiffly and i just burst! i lost my temper, i was angry. i shouted at him, ‘what? are you broadcasting this to your viewers? what? what’s going wrong with you? do you want to say the word? let me say it for you, “live streaming”. is that it? what’s wrong with your brain?’ i just talked and talked and talked for one minute or two. i just kept talking because i was so angry! and then i noticed, his trousers got wet. so, i stopped. i was kind of sorry and i asked him, ‘live streaming?’ and he looked very sad. he looked at my eyes and said, ‘nope, just streaming.’
